POSITION TITLE: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Position Summary

Leadership South Dakota is hiring an Executive Director to oversee all operations, management, and direction of the program. This dynamic individual will serve as the voice of Leadership South Dakota and is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that promote, support, and lead the organization towards the realization of its mission, vision, and core values. This professional must have strong leadership qualities, foundational knowledge of South Dakota, and an ability to connect and inspire others in their leadership capacity while simultaneously driving organization sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as an influential director with ability to lead, motivate, engage, and develop strategy direction that promotes the organization’s mission and voice.
  • Represent the company at social and corporate events in ways that strengthen the brand and communicate the Leadership SD message.
  • Secure partnerships that include annual corporate sponsors and in-kind sponsorships.
  • Forge and maintain relations of trust with sponsors, partners, alumni, and class members.
  • Oversee the development and execution of the Leadership South Dakota program including planning, preparation, and presentations for each session.
  • Attend all program sessions to assist in facilitation and delivery of the program sessions.
  • Support the continual build of a strong and effective core of engaged statewide leaders that complete the program(s) each year.
  • Coordinate the recruitment and selection of an annual class of Leadership South Dakota leaders in accordance with the procedures approved by the Board of Directors.
  • Prepare and facilitate meeting agendas and information packets for all Board of Directors meetings.
  • Provide regular communication to the Board of Directors, Sponsors, and Alumni.
  • Create business plans for the attainment of goals and objectives set by the board of directors.
  • Coordinate billing practices with the programs accounting office, direct and oversee sponsor investments and fundraising efforts, and present finance reports that outline the financial health of the program.
  • Coordinate the marketing and social media services that are designed to promote the Leadership South Dakota program.
  • Provide leadership and supervision for other staff and contracted positions within the Leadership South Dakota program.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrates great public communication skills (speaking, writing, and listening).
  • Demonstrates successful fundraising, sponsorship growth practices, and fostering positive donor relationships.
  • Demonstrates understanding of finance, fundraising strategies, and fiscal management.
  • Demonstrates organizational skills, time management, attention to detail, and managerial best practices.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal and customer service skills, sales and marketing experience, and networking capacity.
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates appropriate physical stamina to manage program sessions and the transportation of equipment and supplies to each program session.

Desired Qualifications

  • Exhibits a desire to learn and grow as a leader; models good leadership practices for class members and alumni.
  • In depth knowledge of corporate governance principles and non-profit business principals.
  • Ability to devise remedial actions for any identified issues and conduct crisis management when necessary.
  • Offers an analytical mind, creative out-of-the-box thinking, and ability to problem-solve.
  • Familiarity of or prior participation in Leadership South Dakota programming.

Education and Experience

  • Education requirements: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree; Masters or above preferred
  • Work experience: minimum of five years of experience as director or other administrative/managerial positions required.
  • Special consideration for experience with Leadership SD programming

Other Information and Requirements

  • Employment Term: Annual renewal by the Board of Directors; reports directly to the Board
  • Full time position
  • Location: South Dakota residency required
  • Salary/benefits: Salary commensurate with experience; includes benefits
  • Active driver’s license
  • Travel required to attend monthly program sessions and program management: 30-50%
